Say goodbye to itchy scalp

Old pic of a twist-out.

Hello there lovelies,

Well, here I am to give a review of the second shampoo bar that I tried.  I got inspired one day to order shampoo bars in order to hopefully alleviate my itchy scalp issue (you can read about it in this post).  Well, I have now washed my hair twice with the Neem and Tea Tree body and hair shampoo bar.  Both neem and tea tree are supposed to be good for resolving scalp issues (dry scalp, itchy scalp, eczema etc.) so I had high hopes for this shampoo bar.  Fortunately, the bar did not dissapoint.  Well, not as far as resolving scalp issues.

It has been about a month since I last washed my hair with the bar and my scalp has been itch free.  I still have the occasional natural itch here and there, but no itchy scalp (before my scalp was just itching all the time).  Unfortunately, this bar did leave a lot to be desired in the department of moisture.

After I rinsed the shampoo out my hair felt a bit dry.  I did not condition after using the shampoo bar so I may be able to overcome the drying effects of the shampoo bar by following with a conditioner.  However, the reviews on the website rave about how moisturizing the bars are.  I have now tried two bars and have not found either to be moisturizing.

So, I will probably try the Neem and Tea Tree bar again, but I will condition this time after rinsing the shampoo.

I have to say that my feelings about this bar are mixed.  I would like to find a cleanser that is also moisturizing, moisturizing enough for me to not need a conditioner after.  I also need a cleanser that will help maintain the integrity of my scalp (no more itch!).

So, as of now, I will use the bar again, but at the current moment I don't have plans of re-ordering; however, I'll report back after shampooing followed by conditioner.

Pros
1.  Inexpensive
2.  All natural
3.  Alleved my itchy scalp

Cons
1.  Have to order online
2.  Not moisturizing
3.  Kind of difficult to apply-the bar doesn't lather much so it's hard to get enough on my hands to get onto my scalp and hair-but maybe this is something I will get used to over time

Well, that's all I have on that.  If any of you have tried shampoo bars or know of a good cleanser to recommend leave me a comment!

Do you know what today is......

My hair is in a twist out with one side pulled back.  I felt a bit 80sish and I liked it!!!  I used my usual products, Cantu leave in and Shea Butter.
It's my anniversary!

Today marks one year since the last time I straightened my hair!  I last straightened my hair in order to get it trimmed.  Since that time, I've thought about straightening my hair but am quickly detered by the thought of dealing with straight hair.  Don't get me wrong, I also have to "deal" with my hair when it's worn natural, but the process and needs are so different than with straight hair.

When I straighten my hair I get so worried about making sure that I can keep it straight that I don't actually enjoy having it straight.  I also find myself "touching up" my roots every morning to maintain my straight look.  As we all know, daily heat = heat damage.  And for me, a part of being natural is having healthy hair.  I also miss my curls and kinks when my hair is straight.  I miss seeing MY hair.  As far as I can tell, the only benefit to straightening my hair is that it reminds me of why I stopped wearing it straight.

So, one year strong and counting.  I don't have a goal or anything as to how long I'll go before I straighten my hair (although I am excited that I made the one year mark); however, I do think I'll keep track of how long it is before I use heat on my hair again.

Well, that's all I have for today.  Let me know if you have any hair goals that you are working toward, or any achievements you've reached without making them a priority.
