- Once a week I co-wash and detangle my hair. Typically I use Aubrey Organics conditioner. My fav Aubrey conditioners are Island Time and Honeysuckle Rose. To detangle I soak my hair with water and then liberally apply conditioner (I do this outside of the shower). I section my hair into about four sections and then split those sections into smaller sections of two or three. I finger detangle, then detangle with a wide tooth comb and follow up with my Denman brush (on lazy days I skip the denman). Once I finish detangling I twist that section. I rinse the conditioner out with the twists still in.
- Following co-wash I typically twist my hair for a twist out- To do a twist out I un-twist my hair a section at a time, put Cantu Shea Butter leave in and flaxseed gel on. I flat twist the roots and then two strand twist the ends. On the ends of each twist I put a bit of whipped raw Shea Butter. I usually end up with 20-30 twists. The next day I take the twists out and wear a twist out for week at a time.
- Night-time routine-At night I typically flat twist the two front sections of my hair and put the remainder of my hair into four-five braids (or two french braids). Before doing anything with my hair at night I mist with water (in the water I add aloe vera juice (right now 50/50 mix, but I'm still playing with this) to reduce frizz and/or a B vitamin complex that includes panthenol for shine). I usually tie with a satin scarf and call it a night (I sleep on a satin pillow case so I'm not anal about using a scarf).
- Pre-poo-I pre-poo my hair with cocount oil about 2xs a month. To pre-poo I warm some coconut oil and spary (I find it easier to distribute the oil if it's in a spray bottle) liberally over my hair concentrating on ends. I usually do this process at night and do my normal nightly two flat twists and four braids. I then put on a plastic cap, satin scarf and go to sleep. In the morning I take my hair out (and if it's a weekday) I wear my hair in some kind of updo and wash later that day after returning home (co-wash as described above).
- Shampoo-I shampoo my hair randomly as I feel necessary. I feel necessary usually just dependant on my scalp. If I am having abnormally itchy scalp then I shampoo. My current shampoo of choice is Aubrey's Honeysuckle Rose, but I'm in search of something new. My next try will be Terresentials Mud wash.
- Oil-I don't typically add extra oil to my hair outside of doing a pre-poo because my hair then gets too oily and feels disgusting. I do on occasion add Vatika Olive Oil (from a local Indian grocery store). However, I only add a bit of this from time to time because I like the way it smells. I use this oil only for its fragrance.
