A little about me

Hello!!!!!

My name is Shayna, but you can also feel free to call me Princess.  I'm originally from Charleston, SC although for some reason people often think I'm African or Latina.  I spent four wonderful years in college where I met lots of great slightly questionable friends who I wouldn't trade for the world.  Oh the memories, glad we made it out of college alive.  I have a PhD in Biomedical Sciences (don't worry, sometimes I don't know what Biomedical Sciences means either), and I'm a Biology professor at a small SC liberal arts university-even though I'm often mistaken for a student.

I love God, life, my family/friends, and my job.  I love to eat, run, zumba, play tennis, listen to music, thrift, read, create things and live life.  I prefer the beach over the mountains, frozen yogurt over ice cream, water over most beverages  and sleeping over tons of things.  I'm kind of a social introvert expecting love to find me at my doorstep (whoop whoop for the UPS man)

I got my final relaxer in August of 2006 and started wearing my hair natural in Spring of 2007.  Why'd I go natural you ask?  I've never liked getting relaxers.  I hated the burns (sensitive scalp), I don't like waiting at beauty shops, I certainly don't like spending money on stylists and relaxed has never really "fit" me.  I first went natural my senior year of high school, but amidst moving away to college and having no idea what to do with my hair I went back to the familiar "creamy crack."  However, I'm excited to say that natural has stuck with me this time around and I'm loving it!

More than five years natural and I'm still learning about my hair, hair care, and myself.  I'm a recovering product junky (PJ), and started this blog to hopefully share information that would help others to not be a PJ,and to not waste all the money that I have on hair products.  Over time, my blog has turned into a place to not only share about my hair experience but my life in general.

This is my first blog experience so be patient, comment lots, and enjoy!!!!

Tootles for now
