I just thought this picture was adorable, I love his style |
Hey there lovely people,
So, about a month ago I challenged myself (and anyone else wanting to join) to a grow out challenge, based on Kim Coles' Grow Out Challenge. To begin the challenge I thought that it'd be a good idea to get a hair trim. So, I washed my hair on Saturday, and then made about 8 braids on my wet hair. I let my hair dry just a bit (maybe an hour or so) and then I blow dried section by section. After I finished each section, I went back and did one last go through on the entire head with the blow dryer and then flat ironed my hair starting in the back and working my way forward. To my surprise the process (minus washing) only took about an hour. Also to my surprise my hair was about an inch from mid back length (I apologize, I don't have pics b/c I couldn't find my camera battery for a minute, but next time). Unfortunately, I had some yuck split ends and figured I'd need to have about an inch or two cut. So, on Monday, I headed over to Wal-Mart (on Forest Dr. for Cola people) and got a trim for $9. I was a little hesitant at first b/c the girl who trimmed my hair looked all of 15, but she did an AWESOME job. My hair feels so much happier and better with a fresh trim. I have since washed and now have my beautiful curls back (well twists right now, but I'm sure I have beautiful curls in there). I am sticking well so far with a trim every 3 months. I've tried to do every 2 months, but am just not that diligent, so I'm going with what's reasonable. For anyone thinking of straightening your beautiful locks, one word of advice, detangle well before blow drying. I was lazy Saturday and did not detangle well (I just used my fingers) after I washed, but found out when I got to braid number one that detangling was necessary before the blow drying process started.
So, who's joining me in the challenge?!?!?! :-)
Tootles for now,
Love, peace and happiness :-)
What's the update on this? How did it go? You mentioned trimming your ends so frequently that it seems like it would be counterproductive... I rarely trim my ends. Maybe once a year, which I know is probably bad... But I don't like the idea of having to straighten my hair every time I want a trim, but I don't want to trim my ends curly... So basically, I need you to do a post on trimming ends when curly and I need a final report on this Grow Out Challenge!

Hey there Ms. Skeptic :-)
DeleteSo this didn't go so well. It is February (happy love day ;-) and the last time I trimmed my hair was probably November. However, I just did a home trim on my hair in natural state as guided by Naptural85. Before that I hadn't trimmed since June. Currently my hair is doing well, and I probably will be fine trimming about once every 6 months (if not longer). My hair acutally is growing and doing well these days, becuase I finally have a routine that I am actually sticking to (more on that at a later time, stay tuned ;-)
