New natural hair youtube channel

Hello there lovely peoples,

I "discovered" this youtube chic that I am quite liking.  I LOVE this girl's hair.  I am sure that this youtuber is not new, but she's new to me :-)  Anyhoo, her name is Chime and she posts as haircrush.  She has about 20 videos on youtube and is very helpful for tips for transitioning, styling and hair care.  Her hair is super thick and long and always looks nice.  She lives in Mississippi so whatever she is doing to beat the humidity-induced frizz she needs to let me know.  Anyhoo, I highly recommend checking some of her videos out.  Some of her videos are a bit long, but just kind of skip around or watch them when you have a bit of leisure time.  She is really big on not focusing so much on products as she is on techniques and tips for styling and transitioning.  Anyhoo, check her out when you have a chance.

That's all I have for now,

a new beginning

Hello lovely peoples,

I have been a bit unhappy with my hair for a little while.  Well, we have been having a fickle relationship, sometimes we love each other and sometimes we don't.  So, I have been contemplating cutting all of my hair off and starting all over again.  I feel like my hair could be so much healthier and happier if I started over again since now I know so much.  I feel like I've learned a lot about my hair over the past 5 years, and that I am actually starting to understand my hair and what to do with it.  However, I realized that I should be able to revitalize the hair that I have if I simply love and take care of it properly.  So, that's what I'm going to do.  I'm going to apply what I've learned over the past 5 years, actually follow my own advice and utilize what I've learned and take really good care of my hair and see where it goes and grows.  I think I'll keep a journal and pics of my journey too so I can remember where I came from.  So, first step along the way is to put out there the info that I have learned.  Wow, this is exciting I feel like I'm transitioning again only this time I am actually knowledgeable about what I'm doing (well....somewhat;-).

Okay, general things that I've learned:
  • When you find a product that works for you, STICK WITH IT
    • No more product junky here......
  • Don't get caught up in what is "trendy"
    • Everyone's hair is different; therefore, all of our hair has different needs.  It is nice to get recommendations from others and see what is working for someone else or what is being considered "best" for natural hair, but do you
  • Stick with a product/routine for long enough to actually know if it works or you like it
    • I often decide after using a product once that I do or don't like it, but you should really give it at least 3 tries before jumping to conclusions, maybe something weird was up with your hair that day
  • Protective styles are awesome
    • When I first went natural I was very much so a wah and go girl, but now I have experienced the goodness of protective styles.  Protective styles allow me to need to manipulate and wash my hair less (disclaimer I have not been working out much, so I may have to go back to washing more often once I start working out regularly again.....)
  • It's okay to stretch out the length of time in between washes
    • I used to wash my hair about every other day, now I wash about once per week and am trying to see if I can go even longer than that
  • Get a routine and STICK WITH IT!!
    • Y'all just pray for me with this one....

So those are a few things that I have learned, and I will impliment these concepts.

The first tip that I learned was if you use a product and it works, stick with it.  My current stick with it products are
  • Aubrey Honeysuckle Rose Conditioner
  • Aubrey GPB Conditioner
  • Vatika Oil (this is a warm weather user only)
  • Castor Oil
Well, that's all for now.  I'll keep you peoples updated.  Let me know how you all deal with the times of discontent with your hair, or what you have learned on your hair journey that you are diligent about.

Tootles,
Love, peace and happiness

Mahogany Me

I wore my lovely yellow scarf on top of a white dress with white "old lady" shoes.  I tied the scarf up some kind of way as inspired by Sharonda's vision :-).  My hair is twists pulled back into two large twists framing my head.

Hello there lovely ladies,

I wanted to write a quicky post about a wonderful boutique called Mahogany Me.  Mahogany Me is located in the Vista in downtown Columbia at 617 Lady Street.  I have unfortunately only visited Mahogany Me once, but that one trip was well worth it.  The boutique specializes in lady's apparel.  Now personally, I tend to stay away from boutiques unless I know I'm just looking; however, to my delight the prices at Mahogany are super reasonable.  The clothes are chic and stylish (as is the owner ;-).  Oh my goodness, and the accessories.  This place has some of the baddest (in a great way) purses I have ever seen in person.  During my trip I fell in love with two scarves, an orange and a yellow, and ended up leaving the store with the yellow scarf and a pair of stud earrings and I only spent about $15!!!!  I repeat, $15 only!!!!  Anyhoo, anyone living in or visiting the area should definitely check out Mahogany Me.  If anyone has gone or does go I want pics of the cuteness that you buy!!!!

That's all I have for now,

rose water

More pics from my thrfting experience.  I bought this skirt from Pets. Inc for $2.  Everything else I had already owned-leggings from Wet Seal, Shoes so old who remembers where they came from, RunDMC shirt a gift from old roomey, belt came on some dress from someplace I don't remember and necklace from World Market.  My hair was, I think a braid out on a wash and go.

Hey there folks,

I am here to tell you about a wonderful invention called Rose Water.  Rose water is exactly what it sounds like, water infused with rose extract.  I use Rose Water at night when I braid or twist my hair.  On most nights I only use Rose Water, but when the hair is a little rough/dry I use Rose Water with a bit of leave in (Beautiful Curls).  To use Rose Water, I put it into an empty spray bottle.  Next, I spritz a bit on, just enough to know that I have something on my hair, but not enough to soak it (a half dried braid-out =frizz) and then braid or twist.  Some times I put a few drops of Peppermint Essential Oil and Rosemary Essential Oil.  I LOVE Rose Water, when I wake in the morning I unbraid, put a bit of oil on and go.  Rose Water leaves my hair really soft and shiny.  I buy Rose Water from my local Indian grocery store and it's mega cheap (~$3 for 8oz.).  I use Rose Water maybe 3-4 times a week, so the bottle lasts pretty well.

Well, that's all I have for now lovely people.  Tootles.
