Hello lovely peoples,
I have been a bit unhappy with my hair for a little while. Well, we have been having a fickle relationship, sometimes we love each other and sometimes we don't. So, I have been contemplating cutting all of my hair off and starting all over again. I feel like my hair could be so much healthier and happier if I started over again since now I know so much. I feel like I've learned a lot about my hair over the past 5 years, and that I am actually starting to understand my hair and what to do with it. However, I realized that I should be able to revitalize the hair that I have if I simply love and take care of it properly. So, that's what I'm going to do. I'm going to apply what I've learned over the past 5 years, actually follow my own advice and utilize what I've learned and take really good care of my hair and see where it goes and grows. I think I'll keep a journal and pics of my journey too so I can remember where I came from. So, first step along the way is to put out there the info that I have learned. Wow, this is exciting I feel like I'm transitioning again only this time I am actually knowledgeable about what I'm doing (well....somewhat;-).
Okay, general things that I've learned:
When you find a product that works for you, STICK WITH IT
Don't get caught up in what is "trendy"
Everyone's hair is different; therefore, all of our hair has different needs. It is nice to get recommendations from others and see what is working for someone else or what is being considered "best" for natural hair, but do you
Stick with a product/routine for long enough to actually know if it works or you like it
I often decide after using a product once that I do or don't like it, but you should really give it at least 3 tries before jumping to conclusions, maybe something weird was up with your hair that day
Protective styles are awesome
When I first went natural I was very much so a wah and go girl, but now I have experienced the goodness of protective styles. Protective styles allow me to need to manipulate and wash my hair less (disclaimer I have not been working out much, so I may have to go back to washing more often once I start working out regularly again.....)
It's okay to stretch out the length of time in between washes
Get a routine and STICK WITH IT!!
So those are a few things that I have learned, and I will impliment these concepts.
The first tip that I learned was if you use a product and it works, stick with it. My current stick with it products are
Well, that's all for now. I'll keep you peoples updated. Let me know how you all deal with the times of discontent with your hair, or what you have learned on your hair journey that you are diligent about.
Tootles,
Love, peace and happiness
