To be natural or not to be natural?!?!?

Random pic one evening of I think 3 day old, perhaps 2, wash and go hair using the Cantu products for co-wash and leave in and water sprayed on at night and in the morning.

No, no, not your hair, your products.  Since I got my hair cut in July I have been trying to use only all natural products in my hair.  However, I have recently converted back to using some not so natural products.  In particular, I use Cantu Shea Butter Leave In as a leave in and Cantu Shea Butter Rinse Out Conditioner, as a conditioner.  I used to use Cantu Shea Butter leave in for twist outs prior to my hair cut, but stopped because it's not all natural.  Sadly, I just can't stay away.  This leave in smells great, is thick and creamy, keeps my hair super moisturized, and doesn't feel like it builds up on my hair.  I'm still deciding how I feel about the rinse out conditioner so I'll report back on that at a later time.  However, after my homemade leave in fail I decided to go back to what I know.  I mean, my mother used non-natural products in my hair for years and my hair always grew long and, at least reasonably, healthy.  I don't put the Cantu on my scalp and therefore am not worried about anything seeping into my brain or anything crazy.  However, the great results of the Cantu has convinced me that being all natural all the time just may not be necessary.

So what do you think.  Do you stick with only natural products?  Why or why not?  Leave a comment below.

Tootles for now......

  1. When I first went completely natural, I too used only all natural products, but soon realized it wasn't necessary. I love Cantu for all of the reasons you mentioned, & mostly because all of my homemade leave in attempts failed also. Furthermore, it becomes so time consuming reading all of the ingredients & googling them to make sure they are indeed truly natural! I now use products on Taylinn's hair that aren't all natural, & her hair has actually strengthened since I've done this! I'm no longer a product junky, I use what I see works!

    1. Thanks so much for the comment! Which products are you using on Taylinn?

I am no longer a product junky (sort of;-) anymore either. I am still deciding on a conditioner of choice, but I am definitely sticking with Cantu as my leave in and GPB conditioner/water/baking soda as my "cleanser."

  2. Wow... Great question. So as you know, I was using Terressentials for quite awhile, and I actually still have a full bottle. However, I recently stopped using it. Why? Because it was SO messy! I actually really liked the product itself, but the cost and the mess are two HUGE cons for me. I got tired of explaining to guests that it was my hair that was taking the mud bath and not me. I'm not convinced they believed me...

So, now I'm using whatever leave in and rinse out conditioners are falling from underneath my sink, and I'm using CURLS...something jelly.... as my styler. For now, I'm content. :-)

So to be natural or not to be natural? If that is the question, then my answer is NOT to be natural.

    1. Thanks Bre! I stopped using Terressentials too. I agree that Terressentials can get a bit messy. I also find Terressentials a bit hard to apply (I couldn't tell how much I was putting into my hair) and it doesn't provide enough lasting moisture.
So I agree with NOT to be, at least for now!
