Hump day happiness

1.  God woke us up this morning

2.  Easter (more so what it represents than the actual day)

3.  Family/Charleston time this weekend!

4.  A bit of quiet time in my office (this is advising time which equals crazy and hectic so a bit of peace is much welcomed)

5.  Rima's going out of town for Spring Break next week (a few days on the Beach, I have to say I'm a bit jealous, I spent my Spring Break in Florence working)

6.  I'm planting vegetables!!! Just tomatoes and sweet peppers for now

7.  I reached my first hair milestone this week!!!

8.  Tax refund!

9.  A great SYNAPSE (neuroscience) meeting in Columbia this past weekend.

10.  Beautiful sunshine lately (and the most beautiful full moon last night)

That's all for now.  I hope that you are having a spectacular hump day!

Wow

On a twist out I spritzed my hair with water, flat twisted the very front (I made a bantu knot at the end of the flat twists and bobby pinned),  I did one more flat twist on a section in the center in the same manner, put a mini ponytail in the back and put the rest into braids.

Okay, so, yesterday I got the brilliant (insert sarcastic voice) idea to detangle and twist my hair.  Now mind you, one of the reasons I got my hair cut was because I didn't enjoy things like detangling.  However, the grass is always greener right, yup, now I miss "doing" my hair.  Anyhoo, so yesterday for the first time in about 6 months I decided to detangle my hair (well, I always finger detangle when I co-wash but I decided to get real yesterday).  I suited up, ie. grabbed a towel, got my tools, ie. conditioner, denman brush, bobby pins and plenty of claw clips, and went to work on my hair.

I rinsed my hair with water, added conditioner (Aubrey Honeysuckle Rose) and began detangling with my denman one section at a time.  Once I detangled a small section I two-strand twisted the section and moved on to the next section.  After about 2 twists I began questioning what possessed me to do this; however, I persevered and a little over an hour later had detangled and twisted my entire head.

Due to laziness and Spring Break fever I didn't rinse the conditioner out.  So in preparation for bed I spritzed a bit of water on my hair, tied down with a satin scarf and called it a night.     This morning I loosed the twists (only because I had someplace to go) and then created a faux up-do using only my imagination and a ton of bobby pins.  All in all, it was okay (of course I forgot to take a picture :-/).  Anyhoo, I wanted to preserve the style in the same manner that I used to when I regularly did twist outs so tonight I spritzed with water, flat twisted the very front, braided the rest (all that could fit into braids) and put the very back into a mini ponytail.

I have to admit, I was quite excited that I could fit almost all of my hair into three flat twists (I did one extra in the back), three braids and one puff.  Wow!  I can't believe how much my hair has grown.  When I first got my hair cut the sides and back were shaved and now eight months later I can almost get all of my hair in braids!!!!  Hooray!

July 2012, the day of my hair cut

Well, that's all for now. I hope that this time around of growing my hair out I remember to enjoy  and be grateful for everything involved in taking care of my hair, including detangling.

That's all I have today,

Looking for milestones...

Image Source I expect my parade to be just as big as his!

Hello there lovelies~

This morning as I was lying in bed enjoying the fact that the work week is over and next week is Spring Break, I began making plans for my hair.  This plan making (which really had the undertone of goal setting) led to me setting milestones for my hair (the Shayna form of length checks :-).  So, I'm listing my upcoming 5 milestones below so that we can all celebrate when my hair achieves them.  I'm so excited, I feel like the little boy on the commercial who gets a parade thrown for the initiation of his potty training, I want a parade *hint hint wink wink.

1.  Able to braid my hair in two french braids

2.  Able to put my hair into a ponytail

3.  Able to put my hair into a cute high bun (oh how I miss my high buns *teardrop)

4.  Able to put my hair into two regular braids

5.  Able to put my hair into an infinity twist (taken from Nap85)

Bonus: Mid-back length hair

I don't think I'll put time constraints on the milestones, but it would be awesome if I can reach all by my 30th birthday.

Let me know if you have any hair milestones that you are looking forward to!
